Ruthven City Council Meeting
October 2, 2007
The Ruthven City Council, of the City of Ruthven, Iowa, met on the 2nd Day of October, 2007, at 6:30 PM, in regular session, in the Council Chambers at City Hall, pursuant to law and to the rules of said council.
The meeting was called to order by Mayor Charles Oppedal, in the Chair, and the roll being called, the following members were present: PRESENT: VerHelst, Henningsen, Hawk, Schoning. ABSENT: Bentz.
Hawk motioned and Schoning seconded to approve the consent agenda items as presented. Motion carried with all members present voting aye.
Elsie Wichman was present to discuss some issues with Crown Hill Cemetery that had been discussed at a cemetery meeting. Discussion was held in regards to the current City Code provisions applicable to excavations and City streets. It was decided by council that the current code is acceptable and the city would send out letters to excavators that have been used in the past to inform them of the code provisions. Council discussed ideas for possible grant projects for 2007 Palo Alto County Gaming Grants. Discussion was held in regards to tree trimming in town. Motion was made by Schoning and seconded by VerHelst allowing Jeff to use his judgment on getting trees trimmed, with a cost of up to $1,000. Motion carried with all members present voting aye.
The city skid loader needs new tires prior to winter use. Motion was made by Hawk and seconded by Henningsen to approve the purchase of a new set of skid loader tires. Motion carried with all members present voting aye.
A question was raised about railroad grants that had been done in the past. Don Hempill will check into those for the city. The updated City Ordinance book needs to be gone through and finalized yet.
Discussion was held in regards to a garage clean up and burning in town. Planning ahead for town clean up efforts, it was discussed that council would review, at next meeting, the letters and steps used in the past for nuisance issues. Several town properties were discussed. After discussion, council decided to get additional bids on the demo of a city owned property.
A motion to adjourn was made at 7:15 by Henningsen and seconded by Hawk. Motion carried with all members voting aye.
